Step 1: Go up... straight... to 202,000 feet. (Plus or minus a couple thousand.)

<img src="http://silver-rockets.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/0001-1387-600x769.jpg" alt="Going straight up to 202,000 feet, in the U.
It’s hard to imagine rocketing straight up to 202,000 feet altitude… but then again, it’s hard (for me) to imagine a U. S. Army Air Force, though I know perfectly well there was one (paging Mr. von Braun….)

A very uplifting <s>HAHAHA I MAKE JOKE</s> recruiting advertisement from 1947. For more awesome retro-space advertisements, I highly recommend Megan Prellinger’s book, Another Science Fiction: Advertising the Space Race 1957-1962.

I’m highly amused by 21st Amendment Brewery’s “Bitter American” session ale. It’s not often we see our first astronauts represented on product packaging… and these guys have attitude!

If you’d been rocketed into space against your will, you might be a little bitter too. Bitter American is our long-overdue tribute to unsung, unwitting heroes everywhere. This American session ale packs a lot of hop and malt flavor into a refreshingly lower-alcohol brew, making it the perfect beer to have on hand when you have a little history to make.

I’ve always loved this photo. There’s something a little ethereal about it. Alan Bean gets double points in my book for being a moon-walker/artist.

Astronaut Alan L. Bean, Lunar Module pilot, pauses near a tool carrier during the Apollo 12 spacewalk on the moon’s surface. Commander Charles Conrad, Jr., who took the black-and-white photo, is reflected in Bean’s helmet visor.
