Interstellar Explorer Spaceship Jewelry

Retro-Rockets.com has some terrific rocket jewelry designs, lovingly crafted in Los Cruces, NM. The sentiments they express in their mission statement are, well, very near and dear to my heart. Check them out!

Our exclusive designs feature a nostalgic take on the Fantastic Future that was in the imaginations of artists, authors, scientists and futurists. Space was the goal, the ultimate destination for the aspirations of humanity – not as an escape, but as a blank slate for the bright tomorrow imagined as a time that was just around the corner.

High Texture Hand Embroidery of the Moon, by Rachel Hobson

High Texture Hand Embroidery of the Moon, by Rachel Hobson

More amazing space crafts are up for voting in the NASA Etsy craft contest — I’m featuring several over the next two days because there’s some amazing stuff to see! The first two photos are of an amazing high-texture embroidery of the Moon. It’s really worth looking at the rest of the images on the listing, to get a feel for the range of texture and stitches involved!

Next, a fantastic moon crater ring! I’ve tagged this “for men” because it’s a size 11.5. If you’re a woman and you can wear it, by all means! (And wow, you have bigger fingers than me… and I have big hands!)

Last but not least, two of my favorite things combine in a beautiful art piece, a raku-fired ceramic lunar crater:

Brother Sun, Sister Moon

Brother Sun Sister Moon Ring

I’ve had gemstones on the brain today (more so than normal, I mean), after reading about the $45.6M sale of this Fancy Intense Pink diamond at Sotheby’s on Tuesday (if you like sparkly things, watch the video. SPARK. LY. THINGS.) Annnnnyway, I keep going back to Etsy to visit this stunning planetary ring, so I might as well post it so I can continue to admire it long after it sells. Really, it merits going to the listing and looking through all the photos, as every angle has lovely and interesting detail.

This ring is the penultimate in the evolution of a ten year design process. In order to achieve a “Celestial” look, I must make this ring the hard way. Each dot or “star” is actually a small hole bored through the Ti ring itself and then riveted with Fine Silver. Silver, being the whitest of all metals, is a great stand-in for stars as well as the perfect contrast to the gunmetal gray of Titanium. The Yellow Diamond Sun and the White Diamond Moon are each set into metals of opposing colors to reflect the yin/yang nature of the universe as I see it. The planets are each represented by historically corresponding metals; 14K Pink Gold stands for the planets of Mercury and Mars; Fine Silver stands for Venus and Jupiter, and 18K yellow Gold represents Saturn. This ring is the best example, to date, of what I have been striving for, a subdued astronomical look of many small and even smaller dots punctuated by different metals as planets in a sea of stars.

Kudos to Patrick Burt for his stunning creation!

Spacemen Ring

Spacemen Ring

Found something a bit unusual today — it’s a seal ring, it’s a coin ring, IT’S BOTH.

I made this silver ring by the impression (in wax) of a Mongolian coin. The original coin was minted in 1981 (the 20 years anniversary of first human flight in space.) The coin depicts the Mongolian spaceman, Jugderdemidiyn Gurragchaa and his Soviet fellow, Vladimir Aleksandrovich Dzhanibekov.

Not your average, every-day ring find! And for interest’s sake, here’s the coin itself:

Bling From Space

Seamless Meteorite Ring

I love space jewelry, especially meteorite pieces with good Widmanstätten patterns (I like the fine kind, not the coarse stuff.) These beautiful seamless rings are custom-cut from a solid piece of meteorite, and they look fantastic. I would definitely wear one! The shiny! The shiny! We wants it, precious!! Space Gems™ also has some beautiful pallasite pieces, another of my favorite meteorite forms. Why is it I always like the expensive thing? Blah.

I absolutely MUST have this shirt. Spacemen DO rock! (I especially love the cymbal and hi-hat details where the command module antennae would be.)

Astronauts & Scientists Cross

Astronauts & Scientists Cross

A lovely cross made up of Space Shuttles and Apollo Capsules:

Four figures of Space Shuttles make up body of our cross, while four Apollo Lunar Modules radiate out from the center. The space vehicles all point to their ultimate destination – the golden brilliance of the stars and the cosmos itself!

The elements of our Astronauts Cross come together to honor all those who have contributed to Humankind’s exploration of space. We honor the brave men and women of Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and the Shuttle programs as well as the early programs of the NACA that took us through the sound barrier and to the outer regions of the atmosphere. We honor all those involved in current space research and engineering such as those involved in the Constellation program which will establish the first human colony on the moon. And most especially, we commemorate our three Astronauts who died in the fire onboard Apollo1, the crews of the Space Shuttles Challenger (STS-51L) and Columbia (STS-107), as well as all the unheralded test pilots, the cosmonauts of SOYUZ 1 and SOYUZ 11, and all the others who have given the ultimate sacrifice to advance science and our quest to reach out beyond the boundaries of Mother Earth.

Part of the purchase price goes to the Astronauts Scholarship Foundation, which is pretty cool.

Nine Planets Ring

I actually found this men’s ring while flipping through the back of an Astronomy magazine. I love meteorite jewelry, and since this has planets on it as well, I immediately pulled up the website.

This ring features a complete band of Gibeon Meteorite framed and mounted in an 18k gold band. The meteorite has been etched with nitric acid to reveal the characteristic patterns, or Widmanstatten figures, of iron meteorites, and set with 9 gemstones representing the inner planets of our Solar System. Mercury is represented by a rust colored Sapphire, Venus a golden Sapphire, Earth an irradiated blue Diamond, Mars a Ruby, Jupiter an Opal, Saturn a Cats Eye Chrysoberyl with an inlaid 24k gold ring, Uranus a green Sapphire, Neptune a blue Sapphire and Pluto a black Diamond. What really makes this ring special is that the band of meteorite spins independent of the gold ring, so when it is on, the planets rotate around the wearer’s finger.

The price isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is quite beautiful..!

Meteorite Ring

Meteorite Space Cadet Ring

Okay, so. Usually I have the whimsical thing for you on Mondays. The suggestion of space thing, the stylized thing, the imaginative thing, the inspired-by thing. Don’t say I never deliver the REAL goods: an absolutely 100% GENUINE meteorite ring.

This ring features a genuine Nantan meteorite! The Nantan meteorite fell to earth, landing in China in May of 1516 during the reign of the Chinese Emperor Zhengde. It is comprised mainly of iron. The meteorite is set on an open-design band of Argentium sterling silver.
