Rocket Boy
Posted by Danielle in Art & Architecture on March 9, 2010
I am so amused and charmed by Norio Fujikawa‘s Rocket Boy — he gets bonus points for being a fellow northern Californian (albeit, far more southerly than my part of northern California.) Rocket Boy reminds me a bit of the title character in Opoona, an RPG for the Wii (I’ve been watching my husband play it, it’s a really neat game. Great soundtrack!)

Moon Marbles
Posted by Danielle in Children's Items, Collectibles on January 14, 2010
A friend directed me to the Moon Marble Company, where they create a terrific “Universe” set:
The Universe Mib Box holds 48 of the 5/8 inch diameter marbles. This box contains 12 styles of marbles from the Vacor Factory in Guadalahara, MX including; Stardust, Comet, Meteor, Asteroid, Milkyway, Galaxy, Jupiter, Neptune, Earth, Mars, Venus, and Sun.
Definitely worth a look-see!
Space Theme
Posted by Danielle in Entertainment, Tidbits & Sundry on July 7, 2009

For every version of Animal Crossing I play, one of my main game goals is to complete the Space Theme set. (Shown is the set as it is for Animal Crossing: City Folk, the Wii version.) As you can see, it has all a girl (or boy!) needs to be space-TACULAR. Also, the Lunar Surface (the carpet, with matching Lunar Horizon wallpaper) makes a lovely moon-dust crunchy sound when you walk on it.
(One of our recently-new villagers, Carmen, arrived with most of the Space Theme in her house, and matching wall and floor. Although I ran to her house during the first convenient Flea Market, alas, already she’d gotten rid of the Rocket. I don’t know who has it, or what happened to it, but I sure do know that it is NOT IN MY HOUSE, AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. She did sell me her Lunar Lander though, which is something.)
Just as an added bonus, here is my house, with my recently (painstakingly) rendered flag of the Moon. Because I needed one. Free Luna.

Kern in Space

Kern in Space is a funny little game: deceptively simple, frustratingly difficult. I never knew fonts and rocket engines could collide… there ya go. What is this mysterious “kerning”? Find out.
Super Breakout for Atari
Posted by Danielle in Entertainment on July 13, 2007

Recently my husband picked up three large boxes of Atari paraphernalia at a local flea market, and this Super Breakout box was amongst the booty. I’m not really sure when astronauts started playing tennis in space (never mind the whole free-fall/lack-o-gravity bit) but it makes for an amusing scan. Don’t you agree?
Here’s a history of Super Breakout and an online, licensed Flash version of the game.

Monopoly Here & Now has a set of tokens and properties for today’s Modern Child:
A Modern Makeover for Today’s Would-Be Billionaires!
- Play America’s favorite game as if it were invented TODAY!
- Move with cool tokens that are iconic to life here & now.
- Own popular destinations from across the United States
Nice to see that Johnson Space Center is a “popular destination”, although I don’t think NASA is keen on selling it. (Found here.)
