Star Wars Christmas, Reimagined
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media, Art & Architecture, Entertainment on December 24, 2010
Tempting though it might be to go to YouTube and dig up the fantastically awful Star Wars Christmas special for epic embedding, I instead present some very awesome posters by Olly Moss, designed for Mondo. (Via Fanboy.com.)
This is one creative set of illustrations: the twin suns as C3PO’s eyes, and the Bespin/Fett mashup is terrific. Even Darth Vader has to admit, he looks good in ‘trees’.
Spacious Spacecraft

They sure built ‘em roomier back in 2001. And with more padding! Only nine years ago, and look at what a cluttered mess the ISS is! What were we thinking?! Here you see the entrance to the control deck, aboard a quite different Discovery than I featured on Tuesday.

Best Picture Ever
Posted by Danielle in Entertainment, Picspam on September 15, 2009
I’m sure you’ll agree that this is quite possibly the BEST PICTURE EVER.
…whatdoyouMEAN you can’t tell what it is? Isn’t it obvious?? No? Well, you’ll just have to go and see for yourself. It is very clear that I can’t post this image on my website, so enjoy the 50px mosaic filter. I know I do.
Want a hint before you click? You’re the cautious type, I can tell.
Remember the rising of the starship Enterprise from the atmosphere of Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, in the recent motion picture Star Trek, with magnificent Saturn and its rings dramatically coming into view in the background? It was a scene so highly regarded that its final shot was featured on the cover of Cinefex, the main motion picture industry magazine for visual effects.
Legally, with-permission-ly, “high resolution, digital shots from that scene” are exclusively available right over here. DO NOT MISS THIS DOWNLOAD. I am talking fully-detailed at over 6,000 pixels wide and tall Enterprise/Saturn yummy goodness. It definitely makes the most beautiful *desktop* ever, if I do say so myself.
Enjoy.

I would be remiss in not sharing this gigantic post of awesome Star Wars movie art and inspired creations, courtesy of Dark Roasted Blend.
Science Fiction Movie Poster: Forbidden Planet
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media, Entertainment on January 23, 2007
AMAZING! A true classic, represented here by a substance-induced spacescape, a scantily-clad maiden and Robby the Robot. Another one I’d love to have on my wall, someday.
Science Fiction Movie Poster: 2001 – A Space Odyssey
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media, Entertainment on January 15, 2007
What manner of fan would I be if I neglected to include 2001 – A Space Odyssey in my list of poster greats? The beginning alone, with its flying-femur-turned-spaceship and stewardesses suited up in Pepto-Bismol pink, is enough to merit at least one viewing of this classic.
Science Fiction Movie Poster: Moonraker
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media, Entertainment on January 12, 2007
I have a soft spot for James Bond in general, but Moonraker in particular — it may be far and away the silliest Bond movie ever made, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t highly entertaining. This poster is particularly amusing, depicting Bond and all of his womens, hovering in space. Clearly, a shiny spacesuit and a gun are all you need to fly shuttles, blow up space stations and attract scantily-clad women in droves.
Science Fiction Movie Poster: The Day The Earth Stood Still
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media, Entertainment on January 11, 2007
As a new series, I’ll be featuring classic science fiction movie posters. These are amusing and great on a wall, fantastic pulp art and truly great movies. Enjoy!
