Dark and Bright
I couldn’t help but be captivated by this stunning space illustration highlighting ESA’s next science missions. Quite the “cosmic vision”!
The powerful influence of the Sun and the nature of the mysterious ‘dark energy’ motivate ESA’s next two science missions. Solar Orbiter and Euclid were selected today by ESA’s Science Programme Committee for implementation, with launches planned for 2017 and 2019.
These two missions are medium-class missions and are the first in ESA’s Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Plan.
Saturn Beach
My good friend John Williams made this captivating composite of space and terrestrial images. I love the combination of elements — spectacular space art!

It’s about time we had some more wonderfully impossible space art, wouldn’t you say? This one is neat — love the monotone palette (via Weird Things.)

Found a couple of interesting, new-to-me works by Chris Foss — unfortunately I don’t know the titles. The above ship looks like it just had an oops had a hard landing; below, a spectacular concept of a meteor impact. (Or maybe that was the ship from the first picture?)
Distant Worlds

I know, I know, I have a thing for Soviet retro-futurist art… but you have to admit, these Soviet illustrations are nothing short of stunning! (Info and images via Dark Roasted Blend.)
Karl Gilzin’s book ["Travel to Distant Worlds"] (from 1958) contained some pretty neat illustrations … [b]ut the illustrations got even better once this book was translated into Russian, and some nameless artist from DetGiz Publishing House in 1960 drew these inspiring scenes…
I couldn’t decide what planet I liked best, so here’s Saturn:

Gorgeous piece of space art. That is all. (Found via CoolVibe.)
Porcelain

I couldn’t resist one more space art piece, especially since it’s named (and seemingly inspired?) by my favorite Moby song, Porcelain.
Age of Discovery

Had to post more space art, because this one is a wallpaper, and aren’t you just falling over yourself, running to download it? Because I know I was! Beautiful, Hubble-like softness — I love it.
Stunning Space Art

I was delighted when I discovered this collection of space art last Friday. My favorites are shown here (and linked to their DeviantArt file pages, so you can see each one embiggered.) Enjoy!
I love the colors on this ↑
Beautiful composition and simplicity ↑
Fantastic contrast of warm and cool colors (and wow, the planet’s surface detail!) ↑
Amazing composition, ocean colors! Funnily enough, almost all the images I was drawn to were by the same artist. ↑
