Cosmic Flights
Posted by Danielle in Books & Literature on January 4, 2012
I just love these Soviet space illustrations from Flight into Cosmic Space, circa 1949 (and hey, they were posted on my birthday, so happy belated to me!) Above is a space station (or a cosmic-sized ring, your choice), and below is said station with a rocket launching away from it. Check out the post at Dreams of Space for more images!

Space Wheels
Posted by Danielle in Food & Drink on October 9, 2009
My esteemed friend Etherbrian pointed these images out to me yesterday: Neato Coolville supplies the terrific ad, and grickily actually owns a box of Space Wheels, and is kind enough to show them off. (Thanks to both for allowing me to repost the images here!)
Space Theme
Posted by Danielle in Entertainment, Tidbits & Sundry on July 7, 2009

For every version of Animal Crossing I play, one of my main game goals is to complete the Space Theme set. (Shown is the set as it is for Animal Crossing: City Folk, the Wii version.) As you can see, it has all a girl (or boy!) needs to be space-TACULAR. Also, the Lunar Surface (the carpet, with matching Lunar Horizon wallpaper) makes a lovely moon-dust crunchy sound when you walk on it.
(One of our recently-new villagers, Carmen, arrived with most of the Space Theme in her house, and matching wall and floor. Although I ran to her house during the first convenient Flea Market, alas, already she’d gotten rid of the Rocket. I don’t know who has it, or what happened to it, but I sure do know that it is NOT IN MY HOUSE, AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. She did sell me her Lunar Lander though, which is something.)
Just as an added bonus, here is my house, with my recently (painstakingly) rendered flag of the Moon. Because I needed one. Free Luna.

Space Advocacy Poster
Posted by Danielle in Advertising & Media on February 2, 2009

I found an interesting poster at SpaceNews.jp, for an event sponsored by JAXA (the Japanese space agency.) The artwork is very cute, and if you know anything about Japanese mythology, you’ll probably recognize the rabbits on the moon, making mochi.
Space Station Chick-fil-A
Posted by Danielle in Children's Items, Collectibles on December 12, 2008

I found this via Out of the Cradle (also reviewed at collectSPACE) and totally, completely want the set of toys. Darnit. This makes me miss Chick-fil-A, A LOT. Plus, the toys are adorable!
Sunspot?
Posted by Danielle in Perspectives on November 6, 2008

Is that a sunspot? No, it’s actually the International Space Station in transit across the Sun. See?

And if you think that’s amazing to behold, check out this photo, with not only the ISS in transit, but the space shuttle about to link up with it.

From Yemen, a set of stamps with visions of possible space stations.
Soyuz, unwrapped
Posted by Danielle in Computer & Internet on October 22, 2008

The New York Times has a flash-based guide to the Soyuz spacecraft — think DK Eyewitness Guide, but animated. Very cool, worth paging through!

NASA Images
Posted by Danielle in Computer & Internet on July 29, 2008

NASA Images is a great new(er) resource developed last year as a joint project between NASA and Archive.org. If you’ve been looking for a one-stop resource for everything NASA does, you just found it!
NASA Images is a service of Internet Archive ( www.archive.org ), a non-profit library, to offer public access to NASA’s images, videos and audio collections. NASA Images is constantly growing with the addition of current media from NASA as well as newly digitized media from the archives of the NASA Centers.
The goal of NASA Images is to increase our understanding of the earth, our solar system and the universe beyond in order to benefit humanity.
